I look forward to taking a week off work when Spore comes out so I can develop many new life forms. I have so many ideas.

I'm gonna make a monkey with, like, FOUR asses. And, of course, a four-assed ostrich and four-assed mongoose.

Hahaha.... I think I'm going to focus on underwater creatures like the weird-ass spaceship creatures in the "deep oceanic floor" segment of the documentary Deep Blue.

That's funny for so many reasons! Tim Meadows would NEVER EVER buy a Nintendo!

But seriously, what's up with that name? It sounds all new agey and zen and crap. I miss the days when video game systems had names with unnecessary letters and/or imposing sounding words, like Turbo Graphix 16, or the NeoGeo. I think it was Sega and their fruity sounding DreamCast that opened the world of video games to yuppies and crystal-loving incense-burning hippie types and ruined them for the rest of us.

Why wouldn't he?? Is it because he's bl... wearing a suit and tie???

My favorite arbitrarily-named system is still my Panasonic 3DO, which I'm sure many Panasonic execs would be hard-pressed to tell you what exactly "3DO" stood for. (Really, it was because the system was invented by Black Sabbath's "Ronnie James D-O".)

HA! You almost got me there. Tim Meadows isn't wearing a suit and tie...he's wearing a sweater vest!

I personally always enjoyed how Nintendo got lazy when they named Game Boy systems. There was Game Boy, Game Boy Colour, Game Boy Advanced, Game Boy Menthol, Game Boy Lite, and the list goes on.

What I really want to see is a revival of the Nintendo failed product lines. Remember that thing you could use to play your Game Boy games on TV? It was great! You could see how crappy and flawed the graphics are! Also, there was Virtual Boy. I remember we sold them super cheap at Wal-Mart when it was obvious it was a huge failure. I should have bought one when I had the chance!

that Virtua Boy was ridiculous!! And had such terrible, headache-inducing graphics even worse than that first VR arcade game, Dactyl Nightmare. VR was doomed from the start. Didn't anyone at Nintendo see Lawnmower Man???

To remove all humour from the discussion, I recall an early Wired magazine that suggested that it went "Audio, Video, 3DO", so it was the third generation of umm, I guess you could call it entertainment.

I DISAGREE WITH YOUR THEORY, Mr. Bayne, as we all know another visionary had already invented the official followup to Audio and Video sometime in the late 80's:

Well, at least "Dreamcast" was a compound word. More or less. "Wii" can't even claim to have proper English roots ("It sounds like an English word!" doesn't count.)

Neither are useful in Scrabble, though, so perhaps they share more common ground than I'd originally thought.

Wii sounds an awful lot like a typo. Maybe they meant to call it the Wifi, but their designers screwed up the spelling.
