TOMARR OF THE MOLLUSCS

As he grew, Tomarr experienced all the riches that filled the life of a Mollusc. Swiftly, he began to imitate a limpet's stoic fortitude in the face of terrible danger from predatory sea birds and his courage grew. From the Molluscs, he gained a unique code of bravery and, like them, did not run when death swooped down on thrashing wings to rend and tear and crack, but stayed defiantly still.
The greater virtue of patience he learned from Uk, the oldest and wisest limpet of them all. Uk had adopted Tomarr as his own, and Tomarr knew that he would one day assume the privileged position in the shallow rock pool that Uk now occupied. They were inseperable. Many were the days they would sit together under the relentless African sun, silent and unmoving.
Yes, from Uk above all he learned patience and found an inner peace. And then all was silence and stillness and very, very little happened over the next twenty-seven years, mainly because Tomarr had starved to death twenty-six years earlier.
